Il verbo *metagraphw* e il concetto greco di ‘traduzione’
Dictionaries usually present the greek verb metagravfw as a polysemic word, endowed with three meanings: ‘transcribe’, ‘rewrite’ and ‘translate’. Nevertheless, the meaning ‘translate’ seems to be entirely unrelated with the other two, and therefore the majority of languages doesn’t use the same word in order to express it. So, should the greek language be considered as an exception? Certainly not, because metagravfw never really gets the meaning of ‘translate’, but it can only be applied to specific types of written translation; types which are much closer to a form of ‘transcription’ than that of ‘translation’.
