The decisions of Dort remain cryptic to many of us today and are subject to stereotypes of the hijacking of Calvin’s pure theology. However, as an international Synod, Dort had a tremendous impact on the definition of Reformed orthodoxy for centuries to come. Since it took place in 1618-1619, it is famous for its “Five Points of Calvinism” – a refutation of the Five Remonstrances of the followers of Arminius. Commemorating its 400th anniversary, leading scholars convene their wisdom in this volume and deliver a better overall perspective on the assembly in a historical as well as in a theological way.
