Der Pietismus

Pietism was a religious renewal movement of the 17th and 18th century which has had great influence on the history of the Protestant Church up to the present day. Unlike the Reformation and the post-Reformation orthodoxy, pietism emphasized not the pure doctrine but the pure life – not belief but piety. To the present day many pietistic elements have been retained both in the Church and in society. The prominent researcher of pietism Johannes Wallmann provides in this volume an overview of the genesis, spread and impact of pietism, and introduces us to the most important protagonists and developments of this movement.
