The chief aim of the series Diegesis in Mind (D/M) is to provide a publishing hub for a growing community of scholars who seek to explore and grasp how cognitive (“mind”) science advances the study of narrative (“diegesis” in Greek) in ancient texts and artifacts. Building on the University of Bonn’s strategic efforts in transdisciplinary research, D/M brings together scholars from the realm of ancient studies and at the same time strengthens the dialogue between the humanities and the sciences. The series participates in the current dynamics emanating from the so-called cognitive turn in postclassical narratology that pervades virtually all academic disciplines from Literary Studies and Media Studies or Ancient History, Classics, and New Testament Studies. Since these neighboring disciplines often overlook potential links among their similar methodologies, D/M aims to forge them through cross-disciplinary discourse. Thus, D/M sees itself as a pioneering intellectual nucleus for a continuous dialogue across disciplines about methods, standards, perspectives, and limits of using cognitive science to study ancient narrative texts and other media.
