The Mobilization at the Periphery
One of the most important aspects of this research is a study of the modernization of the army manning system and the influence of this process on the society of Austria-Hungary. The main methodology of this book is the comparative analysis of military modernization on the imperial level and the example of the peripheral province of the empire – Austrian Galicia. Such model of analysis, reinforced by solid archival basis, presented a complex vision of the Modernity period. It includes the investigation of fates of regular persons from the Central Europe, and main influences of military service on their everyday life. The idea of the book is to demonstrate both positive and negative components of implementation of universal compulsory military service for majority of population of the Empire.
