T.G. Otte, MA, PhD, is senior lecturer in diplomatic history at the University of East Anglia, specialising in the history of Great Power relations in the long nineteenth century (1815-1914) as well as modern military history. He is the author of Classics of Diplomatic Theory (Palgrave, 2002), The China Question: Great Power Rivalry and British Isolation, 1894-1905 (OUP, 2007), The Permanent Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, 1854-1946 (with Keith Neilson, Routledge, 2009), and The Foreign Office Mind, 1865-1914 (forthcoming). He has edited five books, and has published numerous articles in scholarly journals. He is a regular contributor to The Times Literary Supplement and is a Trustee of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Historical Collection.
